Student Organizations

Engineers for Community Service (ECOS) (Kevin Passino, Faculty Advisor) (size >200 students)

Students from all engineering backgrounds who collaborate in both local and international service projects.

Sample projects include:

  • Constructing wheelchair ramps for disabled community members
  • Holding open computer lab office hours at a local retirement community
  • Implementing viable power and housing solutions in Choluteca, Honduras

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) (Amanda Davy, Faculty Advisor)

The student-led OSU chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA, an organization committed to community and sustainable engineering on the global-scale.

OSU's EWB chapter had a project on improving water sanitation in Las Pilitas, El Salvador, but now is working on a project in the Dominican Republic.

Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) (Bhavik Bakshi, Faculty Advisor)

A group which "strives to be the premier engineering sustainability organization on campus."  Promotes "Green Engineering" through local projects and guest speaker sessions.

Solar Education and Outreach (SEO) (Paul Berger, Faculty Advisor)

Sample projects include:

  • Investigating effective enclosure styles during solar panel assembly
  • Developing a "hands-on" display for COSI summer STEM programs
  • Installing solar-panels at a school in Haiti as part of an OSU service-learning program

Code 4 Community (C4C) (Kevin Passino and Scottye Cash, Faculty Advisors)

A group who uses coding to invent products to help people.  Current their project is the development of an app for adolescent mental health (depression and anxiety).  Some work occurs in collaboration with the College of Social Work.

SERVitecture (Beth Blostein and Andrew Cruse, Faculty Advisors) (size >150 students)

Students and faculty in the Knowlton School of Architecture, united through service projects "related to the fields of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and City and Regional Planning".  Activities include weeklong service trips, design-build projects, and campus-based events.

Design Building Institute of America - OSU (Jesus J. Lara, Faculty Advisor)

DBIA-OSU is a student organization that works to create a strong working partnership between students and industry professionals by promoting successful utilization of the design-build project delivery method in shaping the built environment. They do humanitarian work around Columbus.

Ecological Engineering Society at OSU 

EES at OSU is a student organization focused on promoting ecological engineering at OSU.  They participate in projects that serve the community and environment.
